Skool & community platform guide

How to Choose a Community Platform

The right platform is the one that makes your member journey easier—not the one with the longest feature list.

1. Define the core product

Is the product a community, a course, coaching, a network, or a combination? This decision should drive the platform shortlist.

2. Map the member journey

Write down discovery, signup, onboarding, learning, discussion, events, support, renewal, and referral. Identify where the platform must carry the experience.

3. Compare economics

Look beyond monthly software cost. Include transaction fees, additional tools, administration time, and the cost of stitching multiple systems together.

4. Test the daily workflow

A platform can look impressive in a feature list and still feel awkward every day. Test the workflows you and members will use most.

5. Choose simplicity where possible

Every additional system adds maintenance. If an all-in-one platform covers the core experience well, simplicity can be a meaningful advantage.
